KNOXVILLE, Georgia — Authorities in central Georgia are investigating after a hunter found human skeletal remains.

Special Agent J.T. Ricketson, who heads the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Perry office, tells local news media agents are working to gather and identify bones found scattered in a heavily wooded area of Old Knoxville Road in Crawford County.

Ricketson says he believes the body has been decomposing for more than a few months but he couldn't say exactly how long. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Ricketson says they believe the bones belonged to a man, but that they will be sent to the GBI crime lab for confirmation.
