Miami-Dade police: Man fatally stabs mother who pushed him to get a job

MIAMI — A 50-year-old man told police he fatally stabbed his mother because she kept pushing him to get a job.

Miami-Dade police say Francis Roig stabbed Georgina Roig as she slept early Monday and then drove away from the home they shared.

A short time later, someone called police to report seeing a woman covered in blood outside the home. When officers arrived at the home in southwest Miami-Dade County, they found the woman dead on the sidewalk.

Roig's car was spotted later Monday. He tried to run as police approached, but was captured and now faces a second-degree murder charge. It's unclear whether he has an attorney.

The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/1LSaAPU ) reports Roig told police he didn't know whether his mother was dead or alive when he left her.
