RAWLINS, Wyoming — A Rawlins police officer has been recognized by the city of Fort Collins, Colorado, for helping in the capture of stabbing suspects while he was on vacation.

The Rawlins Daily Times reports ( ) officer Lance Cook was given a distinguished service citation by the Fort Collins Police Department this month.

Cook says he and his wife were in Fort Collins on New Year's Eve when he spotted possible suspects in a stabbing that had occurred nearby. He alerted Fort Collins officers, who apprehended the suspects and recovered a knife.

Cook says he was just trying to be a good witness. He says he didn't think much more about the incident until Fort Collins officials contacted him and said they wanted to give him the citation.
