New York state agency approves $5M in improvements for Buffalo's Lake Erie waterfront

BUFFALO, New York — The state agency in charge of overseeing redevelopment of Buffalo's Lake Erie waterfront has approved a $5 million improvement plan aimed at boosting activity along the Outer Harbor.

The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. voted Monday to approve the public access plans that call for building bike trails, public viewing areas and a visitors' center over the next several years. The project involves what is now the Buffalo Harbor State Park and an adjacent 160 acres of state-owned land along the Outer Harbor.

The agency also approved the hiring of B.R. Guest, a subsidiary of Buffalo-based Rich Products, to manage special events on the lakefront.

Agency officials say the funding for the harbor improvements will come from the state's Buffalo Billion initiative.
