GILROY, California — Authorities say a pilot and passenger have died after a small plane crashed in a rural area near Gilroy in Northern California.
Santa Clara County sheriff's Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup says a rancher reported the wreckage Sunday morning near Highway 152.
FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer says the Cessna 140 was the subject of a search after it crashed under unknown circumstances Saturday night.
The craft was traveling from Hollister to Watsonville when the plane went down.
The victims' names have not been released.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.
