MARIETTA, Georgia — Prosecutors say a metro Atlanta man has been sentenced to five years in prison in a hit-and-run crash that killed a cyclist.
Cobb County District Attorney's officials say 28-year-old Damon Thomas Latuch pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide Thursday.
Prosecutors say Latuch has been drinking before the crash and got behind the wheel of his pickup despite twice being told that he was too drunk to drive.
Authorities say Latuch fatally struck Joseph Gathambiri, a deaf man who was riding his bicycle to work. Assistant District Attorney Marty First says Latuch fled and later told his co-workers that he hit a deer.
Prosecutors say Latuch is ordered to spend 10 years on probation and pay more than $9,000 in restitution to the victim's family.
