HILTON HEAD ISLAND, South Carolina — A museum on Hilton Head Island is planning an expansion to bring visitors closer to the environment of the South Carolina coast.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/1q6XdOU ) that the Coastal Discovery Museum plans a $400,000 expansion to add what is being called a discovery lab to its existing building.
The plan calls for a touch tank where visitors can touch crabs and starfish. The exhibit will also allow them to view a beehive from behind a window and see what lives beneath the sand in an enclosed beach exhibit.
Museum officials say the expansion will provide an introduction to the island's environment for out-of-town visitors. The museum is seeking a grant from the town to pay a quarter of the construction cost.
