Heavy rain, wind gusts of up to 40 mph hit Phoenix metro area as another monsoon storm hits


PHOENIX — Another monsoon storm has hit the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Heavy rain with lightning and winds with gusts of up to 40 mph were reported Monday night in Phoenix and some surrounding cities.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Phoenix metro area.

There were several reports of downed trees and power lines with Salt River Project saying about 1,500 homes and businesses in north central and east Phoenix without electricity along with about 400 utility customers in Mesa.

Arizona's monsoon season usually runs from June 15 through Sept. 30.
