LANGDON, North Dakota — A man who drove over and killed a Langdon woman has been sentenced to serve a year and a day in prison.

Court documents show 39-year-old Russell Eversvik, of Wales, was sentenced Thursday after he pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in the death of 58-year-old Laurie Bennett.

Authorities say Bennett died Jan. 31 when Eversvik backed over her with his vehicle. He initially was charged with driving under the influence resulting in death but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.

He'll be on probation for two years following his prison term and also was ordered to write a letter of apology to Bennett's family.
