KANSAS CITY, Kansas — Sporting Kansas City leapfrogged Dallas to second place in the MLS Western Conference standings by beating the ten-man Texan team 4-0 on Friday, extending its unbeaten run to six games.
Sporting went ahead in the 19th minute when Graham Zusi's free kick from the right wing found Kevin Ellis in the box. Ellis headed it on to the far post, where Krisztian Nemeth calmly tapped it in with his head for his sixth goal of the season.
Just before halftime, Dallas was reduced to ten men when Zach Loyd picked up his second yellow card for a hard tackle.
The effort of playing a man down soon took its toll on Dallas. In the 51st minute, Nemeth turned around two defenders in the box and found Benny Feilhaber alone for a 2-0 lead. Ellis pounded a header home 6 minutes later from the top of the box off a corner from Zusi.
Kansas City kept pouring it on. Connor Hallisey used a back heel pass to set up Zusi, who blasted in a point-blank shot in the 64th.
