Dentist gets 2 years' probation for arranging to have sex with child in exchange for drugs

HAGERTOWN, Maryland — A dentist has been sentenced to two years' probation for arranging to have sex with a 12-year-old girl in exchange for prescription painkillers and cash.

The Herald-Mail reports that Vaqar Choudry of Germantown was sentenced Thursday in Hagerstown. Circuit Judge James Sherbin suspended a five-year prison term.

The 44-year-old dentist was convicted in September of sexual solicitation of a minor. Police arrested him at a motel near his Hagerstown office where he had arranged to meet the fictitious child.

Choudry pleaded guilty to a related federal drug charge last year. He served 95 days in jail and is on three years' probation for that offense.

His state dentistry license was suspended in 2013.

Defense attorneys argued during the solicitation trial that an informant who helped police was not credible.
