Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder says state will see more trade with China despite economic slowdown

LANSING, Michigan — Gov. Rick Snyder says he thinks Michigan will see more trade and investment with China despite fears of an economic slowdown in the country.

The Republican Michigan governor is on his fifth trade trip to China, where he's making the case for Chinese companies to expand in Michigan. Snyder and China's deputy minister of commerce presided over the signing of a memorandum of understanding Tuesday between Michigan, four Chinese provinces and a city.

Snyder told The Detroit News in a phone interview that the agreement gives "a chance to build better relations" whether China's economy slows down or not. He told the Detroit Free Press that people haven't talked much during the trip of a slowdown or China's devaluation of currency.

The trip to China ends Saturday.
