COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — Court records say a 51-year-old Colorado Springs police officer arrested on drug charges had been prescribed a slew of pain medications from three doctors — a Veterans Affairs doctor, a family physician and a workmen's compensation doctor.

The Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1nQkQuu ) Jeffrey Warkocz was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deceit. He also faces charges of careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report the accident after crashing into a mailbox and hitting a curb on his way home from work April 19.

Warkocz was taking a variety of prescription drugs to ease pain from a shoulder injury suffered on the job, in addition to back pain, according to court documents. His doctors say they weren't aware he was being prescribed pain medicine from other offices.
