NYPD investigating 2 robberies in subway system

NEW YORK — The NYPD is investigating two robberies in the subway system in which passengers were assaulted before being robbed.

Police say the robberies occurred on Nov. 16 and Nov. 17.

In the first incident, three men approached a 37-year-old man in the stairwell of the Southern Boulevard and East 149th Street station. One suspect restrained the victim while another held his arm. The third suspect punched the victim in the face and body while removing his Samsung Galaxy, bank cards and a mountain bike.

The second incident happened inside the Southern Boulevard and Longwood Avenue station. Police say a 54-year-old man was descending the stairs when two suspects approached from behind and placed an unknown object in his back. They suspects then removed cash from the victim's pocket.
