PLANT CITY, Florida — The body of a student at a now-shuttered Panhandle boys school has been returned to his family for burial.
The Lakeland Ledger reports (http://bit.ly/11oaVsF) the remains of Thomas Varnadoe, who died at age 13 at the Marianna reform school in 1934, will be buried Nov. 24 in Plant City.
Thomas is the uncle of Glen Varnadoe of Lakeland, who played a key role in supporting the three-year University of South Florida forensic investigation to uncover and identify remains in 55 unmarked graves at the Arthur Dozier School for Boys.
Former students at the school have spoken about a history of abuse at Dozier in books and media accounts.
