Pilot killed in small plane crash; aircraft missed nearby homes, power lines

OKEECHOBEE, Florida — Authorities say a central Florida pilot is dead after a small plane crash.

The Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office reports that 62-year-old John Bubel was flying from Homestead to his home in Okeechobee when the Zenith two-seat aircraft went down. Bubel was the only one on board.

The Palm Beach Post (http://goo.gl/jNGloE ) reports that the crash occurred in a neighborhood just north of Lake Okeechobee. Officials say the plane landed on a lawn, missing nearby homes and power lines.
