Sheriff: Russell County High School student arrested after bringing gun to school, hiding it

SEALE, Alabama — Authorities say a Russell County High School student has been arrested after bringing a gun to school and hiding it there.

Sheriff Heath Taylor told local media during a press conference that the student stole the weapon from his father's collection and brought it to Russell County High School in Seale on Tuesday.

The high school was briefly locked down as a precaution.

Authorities did not release the student's name or where the gun was located.

Taylor says the investigation began due to a rumor circulated by another student at another undisclosed school that someone at Russell County High School had brought a gun to school.
