WHEATON, Illinois — A former suburban Chicago physician who pleaded guilty to a felony child pornography charge has been sentenced to eight years in state prison.

In a news release, the DuPage County State's Attorney's office says the sentencing on Friday of 68-year-old Edward J. McMenamin comes two months after he pleaded guilty.

McMenamin was arrested outside his Downers Grove home in March 2014 after an investigation revealed he was in possession of several images and videos of child pornography.

The release says McMenamin will have to serve four years of his 8-year sentence before he is eligible for parole and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
