FULTON, Mississippi — Bond has been denied for the suspect in the stabbing death of a 65-year-old Fairview woman.

On Monday, Itawamba County Justice Court Judge Barry Davis said the charge against 52-year-old Jimmy Dean Carpenter of Fairview — first degree murder enhanced due to the age and disability of the victim — was too severe to grant bond.

Carpenter, who was quiet throughout his initial court hearing, is currently being held in Itawamba County Jail.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1L02Nxq) Carpenter is accused of stabbing Sharon Johnson to death in her home on Aug. 27.

Investigators describe Carpenter as Johnson's caregiver.

The sheriff said investigators have recovered a kitchen knife they believe to be the murder weapon.

Online jail records do not list an attorney for Carpenter.
