Discovery Communications posts profit of $279 million in 3rd quarter


SILVER SPRING, Maryland — Discovery Communications Inc. (DISCB) on Tuesday reported third-quarter profit of $279 million.

The Silver Spring, Maryland, company said it had profit of 43 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for amortization costs, were 47 cents per share.

The operator of cable TV channels such as TLC and Animal Planet posted revenue of $1.56 billion in the period.

Discovery shares have dropped 19 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has decreased 15 percent in the last 12 months.
