FORT WAYNE, Indiana — Indiana state police say an off-duty officer rescued a 56-year-old man whose paddleboat flipped over.
Police say Cpl. Peter Bradley saved a Cromwell man Friday evening on Knapp Lake. They say Bradley jumped into the lake and swam about 50 yards when he saw the man struggling to swim. Bradley was able pull the man to the surface and swim him back to shore.
Bradley told police he estimates the man was under water for about 10 to 20 seconds. He was taken to a local hospital.
Police say there were also two boys wearing lifejackets and another man in the boat, all of whom were able to swim to shore on their own.
Police say alcohol was involved and they will continue to investigate.
