BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Rodrigo Mora scored a late goal on Sunday to lift defending champion River Plate to a 3-2 victory at Gimnasia in Argentina's first division.
River's Buenos Aires rival Boca Juniors beat Estudiantes 3-0 and climbed to second in the table. League leader San Lorenzo thrashed Lanus 4-0 on Saturday and is a point clear after seven rounds of matches.
Fernando Cavenaghi and Augusto Solari scored early for River but Maximiliano Coronel and Ignacio Fernandez leveled for Gimnasia in the second half. Mora struck the winner two minutes before full time.
Cristian Erbes opened the scoring for Boca with a curling shot from outside the area in the 39th. Pablo Osvaldo doubled the lead two minutes later and Franco Cristaldo scored a third goal in the 79th.
In other games Sunday, Belgrano beat Newell's Old Boys 2-0, Racing Club overcame San Martin San Juan 2-0 and Union Santa Fe defeated Velez Sarsfield 1-0.
