ESTERO, Florida — No charges will be filed in a July fatal shooting between two Naples police officers at the southwest Florida home they shared.

The State Attorney's Office announced Thursday that an investigation determined that 37-year-old Luis Monroig shot and wounded his girlfriend, 40-year-old Amy Young, during domestic dispute and then fatally shot himself.

Authorities say Young's daughter called 911 in the early morning hours of July 9 after finding Monroig and her mother with head injuries. Monroig died from his injuries, but Young was hospitalized and recovered. She later told authorities that she and Monroig had been arguing the previous night and that he had shot her.

The medical examiner found gunshot residue on Monroig's shooting hand, and investigators determined that the only gun fired at the home that night was Monroig's service weapon.
