MINOT, North Dakota — A man who scaled a fence to briefly escape from a Rugby jail last summer says he will plead guilty to federal charges.
Wesley Brown III is charged with two counts of possession of firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon and one count of escape from custody.
Authorities say Brown escaped from the Heart of America Correctional and Treatment Center on June 22. He was apprehended within three hours.
Brown has an extensive criminal record that includes burglary, grand theft auto, armed trespass, aggravated assault and escape.
Authorities say another inmate, Christopher Ratteray, gave Brown a jacket to help him avoid some of the razor wire on the jail fence. Ratteray pleaded guilty in January to assisting an escape from custody.
Sentencing for Brown has not been set.
