SALT LAKE CITY — The ex-girlfriend of a man who fatally shot a Utah police officer will stand trial in February for charges that she lied to police about the shooting.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1vYnTtM) a judge on Monday scheduled a four day trial for 35-year-old Traci Vaillancourt.

Prosecutors charged Vaillancourt with obstructing justice as investigators tried to figure out what happened after Draper Police Sgt. Derek Johnson was killed in September 2013.

Investigators say her former boyfriend, Timothy Troy Walker, killed Johnson and then shot Vaillancourt in the back and himself in the jaw.

Vaillancourt was charged because authorities say she lied about what happened.

Her attorney Ryan Holtan says she wasn't trying to throw off investigators but was stressed.

Walker is serving a life sentence in prison after he pleaded guilty to aggravated murder.
