Man, 31, shot dead in Newark; police, prosecutors investigating

NEWARK, New Jersey — Authorities say a 31-year-old Newark man has been killed after a shooting Wednesday night.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray said that the shooting occurred on South 10th Street around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

She says that Jemmaine Bynes was pronounced dead at the scene around 11:53 p.m.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task force is investigating.

Bynes' death is the 12th homicide of the year in the city.
