NEWARK, New Jersey — A man was killed and a woman was wounded when shots rang out on a northern New Jersey street.
But a motive for the shooting in Newark remains under investigation.
Essex County prosecutors say the shooting occurred shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday, near a social club in the 200 block of Emmett Street.
Daniel Morales, a 27-year-old Elizabeth resident, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
The 20-year-old female victim was treated at another hospital for a gunshot wound that prosecutors said was not considered life-threatening. But they declined to release her name, citing security concerns.
The shooting is being investigated by the county's Major Crimes Task Force.
