MARTINEZ, California — Authorities say a man who died at a hospital after attempting suicide while in custody at a Northern California jail was waiting to be transferred to prison for molesting three girls.

The Contra Costa Times reports (http://bayareane.ws/1BaqYuL ) John Hansen died at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center on Thursday, two days after jail staff found him unconscious from an apparent hanging.

The 54-year-old Hansen was convicted of 10 felony counts of child molestations for sexually abusing three girls between the ages of 10 and 14 in Discovery Bay between 2006 and 2010.
