SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah doctor convicted in November of killing his wife is set to be sentenced later this month.

A judge in Provo on Tuesday set the long-awaited sentencing hearing for Martin MacNeill for Sept. 19.

He faces 15 years to life in prison in the 2007 death of his wife, Michelle MacNeill.

Sentencing had been delayed by a retrial request from MacNeill's attorney. Lawyer Randy Spencer argued cellmates lied when they testified that MacNeill confessed to the killing.

A judge denied his motion for a new trial on Friday, saying the defense had already convinced the jury that the cellmate with the most damaging testimony wasn't believable.

MacNeill also faces up to 15 years in prison after he was convicted of sexually abusing his adult daughter in a separate case.
