LA PAZ, Mexico — Mexican authorities say two bodies showing signs of torture have been found dumped in the streets of exclusive neighborhoods in La Paz, capital of Baja California Sur state.
They follow three people killed on Friday, bringing to 46 the number of apparent executions here since July 31.
It is an uptick in violence for a state better known for vacation destination Los Cabos and which had largely been spared the cartel murders plaguing other parts of Mexico. Federal police nearly nabbed Joaquin "Chapo" Guzman, head of the Sinaloa cartel, in Los Cabos in 2012.
According to a statement from the state prosecutor's office, the bodies of two men were found on Sunday gagged and bound in separate areas.
