RAMAPO, New York — State police say two people are dead following a multi-vehicle collision on the New York State Thruway in Rockland County.
Police say the crash occurred on I-87 near the Airmont Road exit in the Town of Ramapo shortly before 10 a.m. Friday.
They say it involved a tractor-trailer, two box trucks and another vehicle.
Police say a preliminary investigation indicated that the collision was caused when one of the vehicles crossed over into southbound traffic from the northbound lanes.
The Journal News says both tractor trailers rolled over.
The newspaper says a passenger in one of the trucks was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Emergency crews remained on the scene for several hours and Thruway traffic was diverted.
