OXFORD, Mississippi — The Oxford School Board has approved a 6 percent salary increase for Superintendent Brian Harvey, who will now receive $138,427 a year.
Board member Marian Barksdale tells The Oxford Eagle (http://bit.ly/1bdr4FV ) the salary is not out of line with school districts of similar size.
Barksdale says the raise was needed to stay competitive with other school districts of similar size and enrollment.
In comparison to surrounding school districts, Harvey's salary is a little higher, as Lafayette County's Adam Pugh earns $119,200, Water Valley's Kim Chrestman earns $90,000 and Pontotoc County's Kenneth Roye earns $115,619 annually.
Barksdale says the board looks at the superintendent's salary each year and makes the decision to raise the salary based on a performance review.
Harvey is in this third year as superintendent.
