GRANTS PASS, Oregon — Three thousand lightning strikes were recorded as a band of thunderstorms moved from the Northern California Coast across the Cascade Range into the northeastern corner of Oregon.
Northwest Interagency Coordination Center spokeswoman Carol Connolly said Tuesday that 10 small fires were spotted, totally 18 acres. The biggest was 15 acres in the Blue Mountains. There was no immediate word on the fires' potential to grow.
Meanwhile, cool moist weather helped firefighters make progress against 11 major fires burning across the state, all of which were started by lightning storms last week.
