BOSTON — Snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected to bring slippery conditions in southern New England into early Sunday, when warmer temperatures turn the precipitation to rain.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning for parts of Western Massachusetts. Two to 5 inches of snow and up to a quarter-inch of ice are possible in the eastern Berkshires and Franklin County.
Winter weather advisories are issued for northern Connecticut and Rhode Island and much of the rest of Massachusetts for an inch or two of snow and traces of ice.
On Sunday, winds gusting to 50 mph are expected in Cape Cod and nearby islands, and southeastern coastal areas of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The Massachusetts Emergency Operations Center will be partially activated beginning Saturday night in case of power outages.
