HONOLULU — The U.S. Coast Guard reports one hiker has died after an accident on the north shore of Kauai.
The Coast Guard said in a release Friday that a 25-year-old man was hiking with a group when he fell from the Kalalau Trail on the remote Na Pali Coast.
A Coast Guard helicopter crew responded, and a rescue swimmer was lowered to the hiker. The responder conducted resuscitation efforts for 30 minutes until the flight surgeon called for a stop.
After refueling, the helicopter removed the swimmer and another hiker who had a leg injury. The other three hikers in the party were rescued by a Kauai Fire Department helicopter.
Fire personnel also hiked into the remote area to remove the hiker's body.
