BEND, Oregon — A former Bend real estate agent who is serving a nine-year sentence in federal prison is asking the court to set aside her conviction.
The Bulletin reports (http://is.gd/wbEgyq ) that 52-year-old Tami Sawyer filed a document in U.S. District Court saying she was pressured into taking a plea agreement, violating her constitutional rights.
Sawyer pleaded guilty to 21 criminal charges in January 2013 after the federal government argues she and her husband defrauded real estate investors. Her husband, 63-year-old Kevin Sawyer, pleaded guilty to one count of providing false statements to a financial institution, swerved 24 months in prison and was released in January 2015.
Tami Sawyer unsuccessfully appealed to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and failed to have the case reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court.
