DIAMONDHEAD, Mississippi — A judge has ruled Diamondhead officials can issue a $1.28 million public bond to buy the former church building they have has been using as City Hall.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1pSj3bN ) Harrison County Chancellor Carter Bise ruled in the city's favor Thursday.

The Diamondhead Taxpayers Association has objected to the bond issue.

The city has been renting space at the former Diamondhead Baptist Church building since early 2013.

City attorney Sean Tindell says the former church will be transformed to house City Hall, the Police Department, courthouse and more.

Pete Kolf, head of the Diamondhead Taxpayers Association, says he thinks the judge was wrong. He didn't say if the organization will appeal the ruling.

The association argued the city did not properly seek bid proposals.
