Tipton's 18 points paces NCCAA Bob Jones to late win over South Carolina-Upstate 83-79


SPARTANBURG, South Carolina — Tre Tipton scored 16 points and had six rebounds and five blocks to lead NCCAA Bob Jones past South Carolina-Upstate 83-79 Saturday afternoon.

Bob Jones (6-0) overcame a 16-point first-half deficit and had its biggest lead of the game at five points with less than a minute remaining in the game.

Philip Whittington's jumper with 10:59 remaining in the first half gave SC-Upstate (0-6) a 29-13 lead.

Later, Mike Cunningham hit a 3-pointer to give the Spartans a 71-65 lead with 5:17 to play before the Bruins went on an 18-8 run to seal the win. Justin Matthews and Shawn Lipscomb each scored six points during the decisive stretch.

Marshall Riddle scored 15 points for Bob Jones and Dustin Killough added 14 coming off the bench.

The Spartans were led by Marvin Smith and Deion Holmes who each scored 18.
