WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina — Chad Reid rushed for 169 yards and two touchdowns, and Shelby beat Clinton 31-7 on Saturday in the Class 2-A North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship game.

Reid scored on runs of 19 and 1 yard for the Golden Lions (14-2). They earned their second straight title and seventh since 1972 by outgaining Clinton 418-117.

Reid was named the game's MVP.

R.J. George was 10 of 16 for 134 yards passing and rushed 16 yards for a TD while Buck Ussery added a late 4-yard touchdown run for Shelby.

Ryheem Skinner finished with 62 yards rushing for the Dark Horses (13-2). His 38-yard touchdown run with 3:41 left in the first quarter tied the score at 7.

Richard Wright kicked a 31-yard field goal with 7:38 left in the second to put Shelby ahead to stay.

Clinton reached its 10th state title game but first since 2006.
