Conway police chief resigns for new job as security director at Arkansas State Lottery

CONWAY, Arkansas — Conway Police Chief AJ Gary has announced plans to resign from his post and accept a new position at the Arkansas State Lottery.

Gary had planned to retire at the end of next year, but he tells the Log Cabin Democrat (http://bit.ly/1VbiaOn ) that he decided to leave earlier when the lottery organization asked him to be their new director of security and regulatory compliance. He starts in his new role on Nov. 1.

Gary is a 28-year veteran with the Conway Police Department. He's served as its police chief for almost nine years.

Mayor Tab Townsell will be responsible for appointing a new police chief to replace Gary.
