SAGINAW, Michigan — Michigan State Police have arrested a Saginaw man in connection to the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy.

The Saginaw News reports (http://bit.ly/1wmGBIq ) a 21-year-old was booked into the Saginaw County Jail in the death of DeLeonce Williams Jr. on Thursday. Williams was shot in the chest on the city's south side and later died at a hospital. It's unclear what prompted the shooting or if the suspect has been charged.

The teen's father says news of the boy's death was one of the worst things he's ever heard. He says Williams was a genuine and energetic kid who was good with his younger siblings. The Saginaw High School sophomore loved football and wrote raps in his free time.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
