FORT COLLINS, Colorado — Colorado State University plans to begin building a new multi-purpose stadium on the Fort Collins campus this summer so it can open in time for the 2017 football season.
The Coloradoan reports (http://noconow.co/1IUQnWR ) that details about the design of the $220 million stadium and financing still need to be worked out, and school officials declined to discuss what changes will be made from the original plans drawn up in 2012.
The stadium is expected to seat 36,000 fans and have a total capacity of about 40,000. A preliminary plan calls on the university to borrow $195 million for the project by issuing revenue bonds, with the remaining $25 million coming from philanthropic donations.
The stadium will be built on the southwest side of the university's main campus.
