NEWPORT, Vermont — No charges will be filed against a Newport man involved in a fatal stabbing at his home in July.

Prosecutors tell WCAX-TV ( ) that 31-year-old Christian Cornelius acted in self-defense.

Thirty-five-year-old Isaac Hunt died in the confrontation.

Cornelius stabbed Hunt in the leg after Hunt forced his way into his home and smashed Cornelius' brother with a shovel.

The Cornelius brothers say Hunt attacked them following a dispute over money loaned to Hunt, but never repaid.

State police say an autopsy determined Hunt died after being cut in the leg.

Orleans County State's Attorney Alan Franklin says "there is no objective evidence there was any intent to kill, only an intent to end the fight."
