Driver arrested following crash that killed his passenger in Whiteson

MCMINNVILLE, Oregon — A McMinnville man has been arrested following a single-car crash in Whiteson that killed his female passenger over the weekend.

Yamhill County Sheriff's Office says 42-year-old Jose Manuel Acevedo was arrested on investigation of drunk driving and criminal negligent homicide. Bail was set at $155,000.

Sgt. Chris Ray says 48-year-old Maria Edith Naranjo Chavez, of McMinnville, died at the scene.

He says the initial investigation shows the vehicle driven by Acevedo lost control and went into a ditch. Ray says speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the Saturday afternoon crash.
