BEND, Oregon — A former Bend police captain who was sentenced to federal prison for defrauding real estate investors has been released.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons says 62-year-old Kevin Sawyer of Bend was released to house arrest in late January, three months before the end of his 27-month sentence.
Sawyer and his wife, former real estate broker Tami Sawyer, pleaded guilty to fraud-related charges in connection with a real estate investment scheme that defrauded investors out of more than $4 million.
The Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/18ijx6L ) the 51-year-old Tami Sawyer is still serving a nine-year prison sentence.
The couple also owes $5.8 million in restitution.
