Man accused of killing mother of his children pleads not guilty, ordered held without bail


PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — A Woonsocket man charged with fatally stabbing the mother of his two children in their apartment has been ordered held without bail.

Authorities say 31-year-old Alvin Huggins stabbed 28-year-old Yanira Flores in the chest. Police say their two children, ages 6 and 4, were home at the time. Flores later died at a hospital.

Authorities say Huggins was on parole at the time of the stabbing. He was sentenced to serve three years for a 2004 felony assault and three years for a 2007 larceny. He was also sentenced five years for a 2012 felony assault and 18 months in 2013 for an assault.

The Providence Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1Q5F6v2 ) he pleaded not guilty to murder on Wednesday and is expected back in court on Feb. 15.
