North Dakota regulators approve $175 million, 100-megawatt Rolette County wind farm

BISMARCK, North Dakota — State regulators have approved a $175 million wind farm in north-central North Dakota.

The Public Service Commission voted unanimously on Wednesday to approve the 59-turbine, 100-megawatt wind farm on nearly 15,000 acres of land between Rolette and Rugby.

Regulators say Rolette Power Development hopes to begin construction in 2016 and have the project finished by the end of the year.

Rolette Power Development says it is attempting to minimize the impact to bald eagles, including working with landowners to remove dead livestock that could attract the protected birds.
