YUBA CITY, California — A Northern California police officer is expected to recover after suffering a gunshot wound while trying to help a woman up.
Yuba City police spokeswoman Shawna Pavey says the woman was in possession of the gun and had crouched down near a curb before officers approached her early Tuesday morning.
She refused to stand, so officers tried to get her up. Pavey says that's when the gun went off. The bullet struck the officer and the woman. Both suffered non-life-threatening wounds.
Pavey tells the Sacramento Bee (http://bit.ly/1uU9Wf2) the officers had responded to a domestic violence call before they spotted the woman and a man on the street.
