NEW HARTFORD, New York — Authorities say a woman has died after she was hit by a car while crossing a central New York road.

Police in the Oneida County town of New Hartford say the woman was hit around 11:30 p.m. Monday as she tried to cross a stretch of Route 5 just outside Utica.

The woman was found unconscious in the road when rescuers arrived. Police say she was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, where she was pronounced dead. Her name hasn't been released.

The driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old man from Sherrill, wasn't injured.

It was the second fatal crash in New Hartford on Monday. Earlier in the day, a motorcyclist was killed after hitting a vehicle head-on on Route 12.
