NEWARK, Ohio — A teen who admitted that he killed an 18-year-old woman near a central Ohio high school last year has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

Adrian McGee was 17 when he was accused of killing friend Danielle Michaels in November 2013, but he was charged as an adult. The now 18-year-old was sentenced on Tuesday in a courtroom in Newark, east of Columbus, after pleading guilty to aggravated murder and other charges.

A prosecutor said McGee stabbed Michaels in the neck. She tried to run away or was dragged to another location where she likely was strangled before other stab wounds were inflicted. Her body was found nearly two days behind a high school campus.

McGee apologized in court to Michaels' family members.
